8th Grade LA
Wednesday, March 9, 2011

1. You are writing a narrative. A narrative tells a story through: dialogue, descriptions, imagery, details, setting, characters, events, places, etc. Look at the packet of four different examples of memoirs in order to help you find your voice.

2. Your word choice should be outstanding. Use a thesaurus. Minimize passive verbs: is, am, are, was, were, been, being (most common).

3. Use words to move the story along (connectors and transitions).

4. Aim for 1,000 words. I will not count the words unless there are foundational issues with the structure and content of your narrative.

5. The project is called "In Search of Wisdom." How will your story teach a lesson about life in addition to telling a great tale?

6. We will finalize grading criteria, due dates, and your presentation schedule tomorrow in class.

7. If you are still reading these directions, good for you. Send an e-mail before 12:55 to acollopy@mssd14.org and tell me your favorite movie. It's worth five extra credit point.
